Dear Parents and Community Members:

We are pleased to present you with the Annual Education Report (AER) which provides key information on the 2009-2010 educational progress for the Marcellus High School . The AER addresses the complex reporting information required by federal and state laws. The school's report contains information about student assessment, Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and teacher quality. If you have any questions about the AER, please contact Principal Nanette Pauley for assistance.

The AER is available for you to review electronically by visiting the following web site www.marcelluscs.org or you may review a copy from the Principal's office at your child's school.

For 2009-2010, Marcellus High School made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in English language arts and mathematics. Advanced Placement

Dual Enrollment:

2009-10 – Ten students (8%) were dual enrolled and earned postsecondary credit. All 8 of those students (100%) earned scores leading to 66 college credits.

•  Six students ( 5%) were dual enrolled and earned postsecondary credit. All six students (100%) earned scores leading to 33 college credits.

Core Curriculum
The district has contractually set a process for curriculum development. Committees are formed by content area. They are designed for both scope and sequence. A meeting calendar is set yearly.
The curriculum committees are in charge of aligning and updating the curriculum. The state's model, the Michigan Merit Curriculum, is the basis for curriculum development and there are no variances from the State's model. All principals and teachers serve on the curriculum committees. The district provides staff development and training to carry out the task. A copy of the district's curriculum may be obtained at the office of the high school principal.
Marcellus School District Policy ensures that all students have the same opportunities to learn the core curriculum. Students receiving special education services follow the core curriculum with appropriate modifications and accommodations as set forth in individual IEP's.

Specialized Schools: Marcellus Community Schools operates an alternative high school, Volinia Outcomes School . Students who may not be reaching their full academic potential or who are having social or behavioral difficulties may be referred to Volinia. Volinia Outcomes School publishes and annual report and it may be found at www.volinia.org .

Van Buren Technology Center enrolls some Marcellus High School students and out-of-county tuition is paid by Marcellus Community Schools. VBTC offers 30 centralized CTE programs. A link to their annual report is listed below.

Teacher Qualifications
All MHS teaching staff was “highly qualified” as defined by No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Every parent has the right to know the particular teacher qualifications of his/her child's teacher(s). Please call the superintendent, Ron Herron , at 269-646-7655 if you have a question concerning teacher qualifications.

Parent Involvement Policy
The Marcellus Board of Education believes that the education of our children is the joint responsibility of the school, the parents and the community. To ensure that the best interests of our children will be served, a strong program of school, parent and community communication must be maintained. To achieve these ends the Superintendent and the building principals of Marcellus Schools have created a set of procedures for effective school, parent and community communications at the district and building levels.

Parents will have the opportunity to:

1. Have ready access to information regarding their child's education progress via the internet.
2. Participate in decisions regarding their child's educational program. (IEP's, Career Pathway, and attending VBISD or LMC, etc) 3. Be informed of ways to assist or participate in their child's educational programs.
4. Serve as volunteers in our schools in support of children's learning. (Classroom, SI Committee, athletic and band boosters) 5. Participate on school committees dealing with the development, implementation or evaluations of school programs.

Communication with the community is a priority and our goals include :
1. the community is regularly informed of our school's progress in all program areas,
2. the community is regularly informed of the opportunities for involvement in our schools and the means to access that involvement.
3. community resources might be employed to improve the quality of the educational experiences made available to students, either through student participation in community experiences or community resources being utilized within the schools.

Types of Parent Involvement
Parents are members of the school improvement committee, members of the band and athletic boosters; they help teachers with various activities, chaperone events and trips, class advisors, and organize meals for different athletic programs.
