Accelerated
Reader
Program

The Elementary Library has a special area designated for our Accelerated Readers to make it easier for students to find desired book titles and reading levels. Our collection contains over 5,000 books with 3,282 tests available to date. Book reading levels range from pre-Kindergarten to 9th grade. This section provides books the students may read and take a test on for reading points. All books are assigned points by Renaissance Learning, the company that writes the books. Reading level and points are displayed in two places on the books, the spine of the book or the card pocket. During the year, each student has a reading point goal for each marking period set by their reading teacher. Books worth half a point, 0.5, are required to be read three times for content, word accuracy and fluency. Higher point chapter books, are required to be read only once.

Computer tests contain 5 to 10 questions, on average depending on the reading
level. All questions are multiple choice. Upon completion of the
test, any questions answered incorrectly will be shown to the student with the
correct answer. A report with the student's name, title of book, pints
possible, points made, percent correct, reading points to date and reading
points earned for marking period will be printed.![]()
Students receive a key chain at the beginning of the year. As they reach their reading goals, they receive an additional "dog tag" to add to their chain.
